ABOUT GOD LAUGHS FARM
Located in the panhandle of Florida, situated near multiple natural springs, God Laughs Farm is a multigenerational farm. We strive to bring a little bit of happiness from our farm to your heart. Sometimes that means a new family member, and sometimes it means a weekend getaway in one of our RV's.
My mother came from California in 1986, her and my father bought this property. My mother wanted a home that she would be able to pass along to her children. She had been adopted as a much younger child and always wanted to safe and secure home for her children. She struggled hard to afford this land and worked hard to keep up the farm. Her career as a female truck driver started when I was young. She would spend most of my childhood driving across country, attempting to finance our home place. While giving us a home, she missed out on a lot of our family.
I began helping her years before her death. At one point selling my own home and moving "back in with mom". My parents both declined in health the last few years of their lives and upkeep on the farm fell behind. I struggled to care for them, and my children and maintain full time employment as a nurse. All after having been widowed myself. I have been attempting to fix everything, while trying to incorporate my own dreams, such as a walipini and an orchard. Each year brings new things to the farm. Progress is slow but hard work and determination win.
My mother attempted to find her biological family when she was younger. She found her birth mother through a detective she hired, found out she also had a sister and a brother. She wrote letters to her birth mother, and often called bother her sister. She never achieved the relationship she had hoped for. I attempted to visit them, traveling across country the summer after my mother died. My Uncle met me at the door, I was not allowed inside the house. Mom always said, "if you want to hear God Laugh.. tell him your plans."
Prompted by her death I joined 23andme, I found my mothers biological half sister, on her fathers side. My aunt reminds me of my mother. She has a will and drive that not many people have. Grit and determination run in our blood. Somehow, an attitude of commitment and the ability work hard endlessly is genetic. They have so many similarities I find it intriguing. I think my mom would have had the relationship with her that she always longed for. They had been searching for each other and never did meet.
My mom wanted to be laid to rest on the property she struggled so hard to keep in life. We laid her to rest in her garden. I continue to operate the farm today.
